Titled “The Fellowship—A Journey Through The Woods,” the William Woods University Senior Art Show exhibit is set to open March 19 and run through April 10.
A reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in the Mildred Cox Gallery of the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts.
Eight seniors have been planning and preparing all semester for their final art exhibition before graduation in May. They came together to create the theme, “The Fellowship—A Journey Through The Woods.”
“We wanted to create a theme in relation to Lord of the Rings—something that was different and
creative. There will be graphic design, paintings, sculptures, charcoal drawings and photography exhibited at our show,” said Shelby Patterson, senior in graphic design at WWU. “It is a great opportunity for us to showcase what we have been creating over the past four years.”
Featured senior artists, earning their degrees in graphic design, studio art or art education, are: Meagan Baker of Larkspur, Colorado; Vanessa Davidson of Jefferson City, Missouri; Katherine Iffrig of Moscow Mills, Missouri; Sara McCahon of Jefferson City, Missouri; Sarah Mitchell of Overland Park, Kansas; Shelby Patterson of Jefferson City, Missouri; Baily Peterson of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; and Amanda Schulze of Montgomery City, Missouri.
The students have compiled their best work from their time at William Woods University. They have also prepared senior pieces that reflect themselves and what they have learned throughout their college careers.
“It is an annual tradition at William Woods to celebrate the accomplishments of our art seniors by installing and presenting their work during the Senior Show Exhibition in Mildred M. Cox Gallery,” Nicole Petrescu, gallery coordinator, said.
“The public should expect to experience a diverse media display, from graphic design to sculpture, as students submit selections from their four-year body of work, plus a culminating ‘senior piece.’”
She added, “I am excited, like everyone else in our department, to see the art pieces in the gallery. Personally knowing the quality of some of the students’ visual esthetic, I can only anticipate that the show will be nothing less than extraordinary, telling the story of their ‘Journey through the Woods,’ as they call it.”
