Equestrian Science Major | From Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
What interests you about your major?
I decided to pursue this major because I’ve known for a long time that I wanted a life in the horse industry. I also thought the classes within this major sounded really cool, especially Horse Management Practicum and Teaching Techniques.
Why did you choose WWU?
I love the small town atmosphere. I came from a large high school and really wanted to get away from that. I love the small class size which really allows you to create personal relationship with all of the professors and classmates. I also liked the equestrian faculty that I had met when I toured this school, they were incredibly friendly and helpful.
What do you like/love about The Woods?
Never again will I be around so many people the same age that share so many of the same interests as me, and I’ve made some great friends here that I will have for a lifetime. Another thing I love about this school is the opportunities. I’ve had the privilege of projecting a horse since my freshman year, and that horse has allowed me to achieve goals I never thought I would. I’ve also been able to show her at multiple rated horse shows, and develop a relationship with her that I will never forget.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I have a job lined up and I will be teaching lessons full time. As much as I will miss being here, I am very excited about the future and am looking forward to working.
How did the Honors program help/inspire/challenge you?
The Honors program has allowed me to take a wide variety of classes which has enabled me to go out of my comfort zone and learn new things. The scholarship given allowed me to pursue my dreams without worrying about a financial burden.
