Biology Pre-Med  Major  |  From St. Louis, Missouri

Kate Doerhoff

What interests you about your major?

I chose the Biology program because I knew coming into college I wanted to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant and William Woods had a really good acceptance rate coming out of their BIO program.

Why did you choose WWU?

I chose William Woods because of the flexibility student-athletes have to be involved on campus. I am in numerous clubs, a sorority, held leadership positions and jobs while playing on the volleyball team and keeping good grades. That is hard to find at any big schools if you want to be a student-athlete.

What do you like/love about The Woods?

I love the Biology program! Classes are challenging, professors are amazing and very personable, and they help you grow into the person you need to be to graduate and move on successfully. I feel very prepared for grad school.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am currently interviewing for PA graduate programs in Missouri, hoping to get into a program for next fall.

Do you play any sports at WWU?

I play volleyball.

How did the Honors program challenge you?

The Honors program has strengthened my education from The Woods as it entails higher level general education classes. These classes challenge you to think critically and work with your peers, while also fulfilling graduation requirements.

What’s your favorite part of the Honors program?

My favorite thing is living with the other honors students freshman year. I made some really great friends which helped set the stage for success in the next years of college as I had friends to study with. Also, I enjoyed having support from the honors professors. They are all encouraging and want their students to succeed, and they provide great recommendation letters for future jobs and graduate programs!

To apply to be an honor student, simply go to the honors page on the William Woods website, fill out the form and write a brief essay. It’s that easy! Any applicant with at least a 26 ACT and GPA of at least 3.2 is encouraged to apply! www.williamwoods.edu/Academics
