Children in mid-Missouri will have an opportunity to explore their creativity at the Kemper Kids Summer Art Camp at William Woods University. The camp allows youngsters to express their artistic side through fun activities.
Intended for children K-8th grade, the camp will be hosted in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts. Three, five-day sessions will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first session, Green Art, will be held May 26-30. Artist Colony, the second session, will be June 1-5. The third session, Artrageous, will be June 8-12. Youngsters can choose to attend one or all of these sessions.
Green Art will focus on alternative (recycled) materials and fine crafting. Artist Colony will feature drawing, painting, print making and more traditional materials and processes. Artrageous will be composed of paper mache and spray painting.
“The amazing experience we had last summer in working with our campers set up the expectations for this upcoming
season,” Nicole Petrescu, gallery coordinator, said. “We are organizing the camps as three consecutive weeks having a different themes. Each theme gives us the opportunity to introduce different media and to create a variety of experiences for our young friends to enjoy.”
Kemper Kids Summer Art Camp will help campers “unplug” from electronics, while using their imaginations and exploring in settings designed to stimulate creative problem solving. The camp staff will consist of certified educators and WWU students, specializing in visual arts and education.
The cost of each session is $150. This includes all arts and crafts materials, camp t-shirt, daily snacks and drinks. Discounts are available for multiple-week attendance, additional siblings, and all WWU employees.
Before and after care will be offered by request from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for $5 per hour. A gallery exhibit of campers’ work is planned on the final day of each session.
“We are looking forward to exhibiting campers’ artwork at the end of each week, and celebrating their accomplishments with family and friends, as well as the Fulton community,” Petrescu said.
Registration may be dropped off at Kemper Arts Center between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday-Friday until May 8. It also can be mailed to Nicole Petrescu, Mildred Cox Gallery, William Woods University, One University Ave., Fulton, MO 65251.
