One of the most anticipated traditions at William Woods University (WWU) is set to make its comeback this April – with a nod to the health and safety of all participants.
Following the cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Alumni Weekend will return to WWU in April 2021. For the first time in the event’s long history, Alumni Weekend 2021 will be comprised of a schedule of virtual events, rather than hosting them live on our campus, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the entire campus community.
“As we have discovered in the past year, responding to COVID-19 on a college campus is a dynamic, evolving process which has required constant change and adaptation,” said Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, President of William Woods. “That includes time-honored William Woods’ traditions such as Alumni Weekend. Fortunately, our Alumni Relations team has created a schedule of virtual events designed to still provide our alumni with an opportunity to connect with former classmates and friends, while still experiencing The Woods at its finest.”
Alumni Weekend will be held from Thursday, April 15 through Saturday, April 17. Highlights will include the annual “Parting Thoughts” lecture from retiring faculty; an alumni happy hour and networking session; a live stream of the WWU Theatre production “The Bard of Avon,” with a Q&A with the production’s cast to follow; the annual Spring WWU Alumni Board meeting; a virtual brunch and alumni awards ceremony; virtual art painting and creating writing symposiums, and virtual open house tours of each campus fraternity and sorority.
WWU alumni should watch their email and the William Woods website for more details coming soon.
