“Faith County” to debut at WWU on February 22

When the William Woods University (WWU) Theatre Department stages a play, it is not just students that serve in all the roles.

In fact, the majority of parts in the university’s upcoming production of “Faith County” will be played by local Callaway County actors and actresses, a great example of how WWU provides opportunities for members of the community, as well as students, to explore the arts and education.

“Communities such as Fulton that are lucky enough to host universities enjoy a variety of benefits for its citizens, and nowhere is that more evident than for local folks that have an interest in theatre and the opportunities we offer at William Woods,” said Joe Potter, assistant professor of performing arts and artistic director of theatre at WWU. “We have some tremendously talented individuals in this area, and we are happy to have them perform alongside our students in our stage productions.”

With rehearsals going on this week for Faith County, four Fulton residents are preparing to play prominent roles – Suzy Johnston, Jody Paschal, Lindsey Hux and Kathy Potter. Two other roles will be played by William Woods commuter students – Cody Pezold and Justin Queen of Kingdom City. Five of the six local actors either have already earned, or are working toward, a degree in theatre.

“We invite members of the Fulton and surrounding community to make a point to come see Faith County or other William Woods productions – who knows, you might be seeing your neighbor performing on stage,” added Potter.

Faith County is a comedy set in the rural South about a colorful collection of country folk and characters that gather around an annual county fair. Suitable for all ages, the production will debut on Thursday, February 22, followed by shows on Friday and Saturday, February 23-24, all at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a matinee performance on February 24 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place at Dulany Auditorium on the William Woods University campus.
