Jane Mudd, Assistant Professor of Art at William Woods University (WWU), was recently honored for a lifetime of portraying both the empowerment and plight of women in her art. Mudd received one of four Equality Day Awards from the Missouri Women’s Network during their annual Equality Day Brunch, honoring her for a career of exceptional work on behalf of women.
An annual event to mark the anniversary of women winning the right to vote, the Equality Day Awards each year honor four women whose contributions advance the cause of women in the state of Missouri. This year’s event, the 98th anniversary of women becoming eligible to vote, was held at the Clayton Plaza Hotel in Clayton on Saturday, August 25.
Mudd has been a member of the faculty at WWU since 1997, where her major areas of interest include Art History, Drawing, Painting and Public Art. She currently teaches courses in Art Applications, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Women, Art and Society. Prior to coming to William Woods, she taught at both the University of Missouri, Columbia (MU) and Stephens College. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout mid-Missouri during her career and has won numerous awards in juried exhibits, while also being featured in Missouri Conservationist magazine. She is currently on the board of directors at the Orr Street Studios in Columbia and the Art House in Fulton.
A resident of the Fulton area for the past 40 years, Mudd is a 1976 graduate of Fontbonne College in St. Louis, where she received her B.A. degree in Art. She also received her M.A. in Art from MU in 1994.
