William Woods University (WWU) today announced the appointment of Darianne Maclin of Fulton as the university’s new Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Ms. Maclin, a 2017 graduate of William Woods, will replace Cyndi Koonse.
In her new role, Maclin will be responsible for supporting William Woods students through a variety of initiatives, including coordinating, implementing and promoting all-inclusive cultural programming; fostering understanding and appreciation for racial, ethnic, gender, age and other cultural differences; providing culturally correct, informative presentations that encourage discussions on current cultural issues and events; scheduling relevant cultural film series, and offering professional development workshops and training to faculty, staff and students to increase cultural awareness.
Maclin returns to WWU from the Missouri Girls Town Foundation, where she currently serves as Director of Development and Advancement after previously working as the organization’s lead youth specialist. Missouri Girls Town is an organization that provides care and treatment for abused and neglected girls. She also has experience interning at Cremer Therapeutic Community Center in Fulton.
Maclin graduated from William Woods in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and also previously attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. While at Millikin, she worked in the university’s Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement and was involved in the Long-Vanderburg Scholarship Program, where she helped organize events that raised awareness for social justice causes.
William Woods is deeply committed to a diverse and inclusive campus community. In addition to its Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the university hosts the annual “Bridging Differences: Conversations on Gender, Race and Equality” symposium on campus each spring, an event that features lectures, discussions and an annual art exhibit. This year’s symposium is scheduled for March 25-29, 2019.
