2020 commencement ceremonies cancelled at William Woods University

Fulton, MO – Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, President of William Woods University (WWU), announced today that the University’s 2020 spring commencement ceremonies held on the main campus in Fulton, have been cancelled. The two ceremonies, one for undergraduate and one for graduate students, were originally scheduled for Saturday, April 25. The University will be planning an alternate means of honoring its senior class of 2020 at a different time.

In addition, the University is cancelling its traditional Alumni Weekend, scheduled for April 17-18 on campus. The spring meeting of the University’s board of trustees will go on as scheduled on Friday, April 24 in a virtual format.

“The ongoing, unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 virus continue to prompt a number of difficult, though completely necessary, decisions about our future operations,” said President Barnett. “In the interest of following all Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and with our commitment to the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors, we are taking these prudent and responsible measures at this time.”

WWU has been preparing for a coordinated response to the coronavirus crisis for the past month, when the University convened its COVID-19 Preparedness Team. Closely following all CDC and state health guidelines, the University officially announced on Thursday, March 12 that it was transitioning all classes for the remainder of the spring semester to online delivery.
