After concluding its Spring meeting last week, the Board of Trustees for William Woods University(WWU) today announced an extension of the contract of President Dr. Jeremy L. Moreland through 2030. The University’s governing board reached the decision unanimously for the extension for Moreland, who began his tenure as William Woods’ 13th president in October 2021.
“We have accomplished so much as a university, and still have much to accomplish,” said Romaine Seguin, Chair of the William Woods University Board of Trustees. “For these reasons, we are pleased to extend the leadership role of President Moreland.”
“I am honored to earn the continued confidence of our esteemed board of trustees, and am thrilled to continue leading this outstanding university,” said President Moreland. “When you add up all of our attributes, including talented students, quality academics, a beautiful campus, continued innovation, and dedicated faculty and staff, you can’t help but conclude that the very best days of The Woods are still ahead of us. I am humbled by the responsibility placed in me to help get us there.”
Under President Moreland’s leadership, William Woods has seen impressive growth in enrollment, academic programs, campus projects, and athletics. Last August, the University welcomed the largest incoming class (456) of new students in the 154-year history of WWU, and is on track to break that record this Fall. Online enrollment also continues to track up after the University launched Woods Global in 2022, a major increase in the number of online degree programs offered at WWU.
On campus under President Moreland’s watch, the University has added a new Center for Equine Medicine, a reconstructed modern bridge over Senior Lake, a pedestrian trail and an equestrian trail, refreshed basketball facilities, integrated technology to improve online streaming for athletic events, and is in the process of building a new multi-sports athletic field to house football and soccer.
Academically, the University established the first-ever doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) program in WWU history in 2023, while adding seven additional new degree programs. And in athletics, William Woods announced the groundbreaking addition of football for the first time ever in May 2023, one of seven new intercollegiate sports added to the University’s athletic department since 2022, and is moving into the prestigious Heart of America Conference beginning later this year.
