It is summertime at William Woods University (WWU), and the living is about to get anything but easy.
Despite the hiatus from classes as the university observes summer break, beginning next week the Fulton campus will swarm with activity as William Woods kicks off its annual tradition of hosting a myriad of camps and conferences. The camps and conference season at WWU, lasting for about eight weeks until the end of July, is a great opportunity for young people to benefit from the expertise of William Woods faculty and coaches as they pursue their academic or athletic passions.
“Many of our prospective students get their first affiliation with The Woods when they attend one of our many camps or conferences,” said Brenda Foster, WWU Community Development Officer and coordinator of summer camps and conferences at William Woods. “It has become a summertime tradition on our campus and is an important vehicle for us to introduce our university to the college students of tomorrow,” she said.
Camps and conferences include both residential and non-residential options for prospective attendees. The season kicks off with Freshman Advantage, the university’s three-week orientation for incoming freshman that helps them prepare for college life at William Woods, which runs from June 11-June 29. One of the biggest events of the summer at WWU is the Missouri Association of Student Councils Conference, which is the organization’s flagship summer leadership workshop that will bring more than 700 of Missouri’s best and brightest student leaders to William Woods from June 10-15. The university also hosts three separate sessions of “College for Kids,” which is a program that provides accelerated learning experiences specifically for academically talented students from grades three through nine (June 17-22, June 24-29 and July 8-14) and two sessions of Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (June 25-June 28 and July 9-12).
Camps include sessions for baseball; boys’ and girls’ basketball; tennis; equestrian; art including drawing, painting, clay molding, art around the world and art using recyclable materials; and musical theatre. For information on all camps, please visit williamwoods.edu/events.
