Students at William Woods University (WWU) will soon benefit from increased opportunities to become athletic trainers.
WWU and Culver-Stockton (C-SC), located in Canton, Missouri, are strategically partnering to pave the way for students to earn a Master of Athletic Training degree, which is now a requirement for certification and licensure in the rapidly-growing profession. The new partnership between the two institutions will officially kick off with the Fall 2022 semester.
“We are tremendously excited about our new partnership with Culver-Stockton,” said Dr. Steve Middleton, PT, ATC, CSCS, Assistant Professor of Athletic Training at William Woods. “We pride ourselves in the ability of the William Woods Exercise Science program to provide an excellent academic experience and internship opportunities that prepare students for professional programs in athletic training. Our new partnership with Culver-Stockton and their graduate program will streamline the application process and provide extensive opportunities for unique clinical sites to the students.”
As outlined in the agreement, students will complete their degree with undergraduate coursework at William Woods before they transition to C-SC, where they will complete two years of graduate study. These courses will include a variety of clinical experiences in traditional settings such as high school and college sports as well as non-traditional settings such as clinics, the military, and industrial environments. The skill-based opportunities provided to the students at C-SC will primarily take place within the medical communities of Canton, Hannibal, and Quincy with additional opportunities for immersive experiences across the country.
