Interim Athletic Director appointed at William Woods University

Casey Wieder to replace Steve Wilson who is joining the NAIA National Office

Fulton, MO – Romaine Seguin, Acting President of William Woods University(WWU), today announced that Athletic Director Steve Wilson, who has headed the university’s athletic program since 2023, has resigned his position to join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Office in Kansas City. Seguin has appointed Casey Wieder, WWU Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, as Interim Athletic Director, effective February 10.

The university will begin a national search for a permanent athletic director immediately.

Wieder has been with The Woods since October 2022, when he joined the university as Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Enrollment and Media Corps Coordinator. He also served as Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Enrollment and Media. In his new role as Interim Athletic Director, he will look to continue the momentum of the Owls’ athletic department from the past two years.

“I have been honored to serve as Director of Athletics at William Woods, and proud of the successes we have been able to achieve together,” said Wilson. “Over the past two years, we’ve increased the number of our athletics teams with a team GPA of 3.0 to 22, improved the retention rate for William Woods student-athletes, added 11 new intercollegiate sports programs including the historic first-ever football program at The Woods, facilitated the move of Owls’ Athletics to a new conference (the Heart of America), and currently sit in second place in the American Midwest Conference Presidents Cup standings. I will always be an Owls fan.”

Before coming to WWU, Wieder served in a variety of roles at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, including Assistant Director of Athletic Enrollment, Radio Play-by-Play Announcer for Ottawa Braves sports, Senior Enrollment Advisor and Enrollment Advisor. He is a graduate of Ottawa University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Communications and was an all-conference kicker on the football team, and also has a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Concordia University in Austin, Texas.
