The Mainstage Season Series is back at William Woods University(WWU), as the University’s drama department will kick off its 2022-2023 schedule with a unique historical play entitled “45 Plays for 45 Presidents.” This week’s stage production, comprising 45 individual short plays that each explore a surprising aspect of every one of the U.S.’s 45 presidential administrations, will begin with the opening performance on Thursday, October 6, at Dulany Auditorium on the WWU campus.
“45 Plays for 45 Presidents” is exactly what the title sounds like, although every turn it takes is entirely unexpected. In each of these short individual takes on American history, a member of the flexible ensemble dons the star-spangled coat of the presidency and the group explores a surprising or obscure detail of that administration. The short plays run on a spectrum from elections to impeachments, from personal stories to political battles, and from the funny to the tragic.
“Whether it’s a comedy roast of Thomas Jefferson, a nuanced monologue about social upheaval during the Johnson administration or a mini-musical about George Bush, Sr., you will never know what is coming next in this highly unique production,” said Joe Potter, Artistic Director of the William Woods University Theatre Department. “Come join us for a captivating, thought-provoking, and wildly entertaining evening of theatre.”
Performances for 45 Plays for 45 Presidents will take place October 6 – October 8 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee showing on Saturday, October 8 at 2 p.m., all in Dulany Auditorium. Tickets for the production ($8) must be purchased using a credit or debit card at https://www.showtix4u.com. Other productions for the 2022-2023 academic year will be “Silent Sky” December 1-3 , 2022; “These Shining Lives” February 23-25, 2023, and “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club,” April 20-22, 2023.
