University will see a 40% increase in new students when classes begin on August 22.
Bucking the national trend in higher education enrollment, William Woods University (WWU) is projecting a significant increase in the number of new students who will enroll at the University when classes for the Fall 2022 semester begin on Monday, August 22.
269 new students are set to begin classes at The Woods, an increase of 78 students (40 percent) over last year’s first week total of 191. The first-day count is the biggest incoming class of new students at WWU since 2017, which will also mean an overall 10 percent increase in the University’s total population.
“We are thrilled to welcome an outstanding class of new students to William Woods next week, our biggest in five years, and excited about the future of our University,” said Dr. Jeremy Moreland, President of William Woods. “It is clear that the student-centered, professions-oriented, personal college experience we offer at The Woods continues to resonate with prospective students and their families, even at a time when many other institutions are facing enrollment challenges.”
According to data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, undergraduate enrollment dropped 4.7 percent nationally during the Spring 2022 semester, and is now down 19.7 percent for private four-year colleges since the Spring 2019 semester (https://nscresearchcenter.org/current-term-enrollment-estimates/).
The biggest increase in incoming majors for WWU will be in Equestrian Science, which will have a 77 percent increase in the number of new students for Fall 2022. Other significant increases include students studying Biology (up 56 percent), Education (up 41 percent), Business and American Sign Language.
The Fall 2022 incoming class could still grow in the next week, as well. New enrollees to The Woods will be accepted until the end of the first week of class, on Friday, August 26.
