Houseworth named new University Controller
Dr. Jeremy Moreland, President of William Woods University (WWU), today announced the appointment of Stephen Mansdoerfer of Denver, Colo. as the University’s new Chief Financial Officer, effective May 31, 2022. Mansdoerfer will replace Julie Houseworth, who will now serve as the University’s Controller, effective immediately.
Mansdoerfer joins the WWU administration with more than 30 years of experience in finance and budget management, including cost and budget analysis, forecasting, marketing, strategic planning, multi-site operational leadership, client and vendor relations, facilities management, and project coordination. In his new cabinet-level role at William Woods, he will be responsible for the development and management of the University’s operating budget, including directing the institution’s financial planning and accounting practices and its relationship with lending institutions, donors and the financial community.
Mansdoerfer comes to William Woods from Shiloh House, a mental health treatment facility based in the greater Denver, Colorado area, where he has served as Chief Financial Officer since 2020. His extensive experience includes serving as a Senior Advisor at Sarge Advisors in Aurora, Colo. (2018-2020); Vice-President of Operations and Finance at the University of the Rockies in Denver (2016-2018); Chief Financial Officer for Orange County Mission in Tustin, Calif. (2015-2016); Vice-President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer at Western Seminary in Portland, Ore.(2012-2015); Vice-President and Financial Specialist for the Education Management Corporation and Greenhouse Operations in Chandler, Ariz.; Vice-President and Director of Administration and Finance at The Art Institute of Colorado, and Business Manager for the Portland (Ore.) State University Foundation.
Mansdoerfer is a veteran of the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve, where he retired as a Systems Analyst-Major after also serving as a Financial Management Officer and Security Police Officer.
Houseworth brings a decade of experience at William Woods to her new position on campus. She joined WWU in 2012, and became Chief Financial Officer in 2014. In her position as Controller, she will be responsible for overseeing Business Services operations and its personnel covering the accounts payable, payroll, general ledger and investment accounting.
“Julie Houseworth answered the call to serve as Chief Financial Officer during a time of need for the University, and I am thrilled that she is eager to continue to serve the University as our Controller,” said President Moreland. “The appointment of Stephen Mansdoerfer as Chief Financial Officer to oversee our operating budget, financing and accounting practices, along with Julie’s continued service to William Woods as our University Controller, will position our institution in the best possible place in terms of our University’s finances. We have a team that will ensure that William Woods will always be able to provide the necessary resources to our students that allows them to achieve a high quality, professions-oriented liberal arts education,” he said.
Mansdoerfer received his Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University (San Francisco), Bachelor of Science in Business from Excelsior College (Albany, N.Y.) and Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force (Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.).
