Fulton, MO– One of the ways William Woods University (WWU) demonstrates its commitment to a diverse and inclusive campus community is by hosting its annual symposium, “Bridging Differences: Conversations on Gender, Race and Equality.” This year’s symposium, which will be held in October, is receiving support from Missouri’s only statewide agency devoted exclusively to humanities education.
The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) announced today that it has awarded a grant of $2,500 to William Woods in support of the Bridging Differences symposium, which is being held for the fourth consecutive year in 2019. A source of humanities education for all ages in Missouri, MHC has served as the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
“We are pleased to receive this support from the Missouri Humanities Council for our annual symposium, which we established on campus in 2016 as college campuses across the nation wrestled with issues of race relations, sexual misconduct, equality and free speech,” said Dr. Jahnae Barnett, president of William Woods University. “William Woods will always be committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and respectful campus environment and our symposium is a big part of that commitment.”
Featuring lectures, discussions and an art exhibit, the symposium was originally made possible through a generous donation by former WWU associate professor of Spanish Dr. Mary Mosley, who stated “my hope is that William Woods can become known as a leader in addressing these important social issues, and a university that is not afraid to confront the country’s most pressing problems.”
The Bridging Differences symposium will be held October 22-24, 2019.
