Baylie Borman, a senior at William Woods University (WWU) and resident of Kingdom City, was honored with three prestigious awards from the university during the William Woods Academic Honors Convocation and Co-Curricular Banquet on April 27. At the end of each academic year, WWU recognizes a select group of graduating seniors who have achieved excellence in academic, co-curricular and service projects during their time at the university.
Borman, who graduated on April 28 with a degree with honors in Business, received the OWL Achievement, Service Learning and SAC Outstanding Senior Awards from the university.
Recipients of the OWL Achievement Award are selected for their Outstanding Wisdom and Leadership while a student at William Woods. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.4 and have submitted a resume and list of campus activities for review. Criteria includes the student’s scholarship ability; participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities; citizenship; service the William Woods University and the community and potential for future achievement.
The Service Learning Award is given to the graduating senior with a grade point average of at least 3.4 who, in the estimation of the faculty of the university, has best exemplified an exceptional commitment to service learning.
The SAC Outstanding Senior Award is presented to the graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in campus involvement, leadership and community service, with each student nominated by his/her peers.
A Dean’s List student with a 3.9 grade point average, Borman has been extremely active in the community and on campus during her time at WWU. Her volunteer activities have included the Auxvasse Art Festival, Clothes Cupboard, Soup Kitchen, Animal Shelter, Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Art House, SERVE, Senior Center of Callaway County, Churchill Color Run, Susan Komen Race and three nursing area nursing homes.
In addition to serving her community, Borman has served in a variety of roles at William Woods, including as a University Ambassador, Orientation Leader and senior class president. Other activities include communications chair of the President’s Twenty, an elite group of students that advise the president of the university; president of Order of Omega Greek Honor Society; member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society; vice president of College DECA; and member of Student Alumni Council, Students Today Alumni Tomorrow, Campus Activities Board and Student Assembly Finance Committee.
