Collaborative work from nearly 80 fiber artists across Missouri, Illinois and Canada will be the focus of an exhibition opening Nov. 5 at William Woods University. An opening reception and gallery talk will be held 4 to 7 p.m.
Sponsored by Missouri Fiber Artists, the show is titled “Pairings.” It premiered at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in Clayton, Missouri, earlier this fall. The show will remain at William Wood’s Mildred M. Cox Gallery through Dec. 4.
“Pairings” is the culmination of a year-long collaboration that began in July 2014. Fiber artists paired up to visit each other’s studios, talk about their art and become familiar with each other’s artwork.
Pairs were challenged to create one collaborative piece, and each member of the pair was asked to create an individual piece to reflect the influence of the collaboration. More than 100 works of art will be on display.
Missouri Fiber Artists (www.missourifiberartists.org) is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that creates community among and opportunities for fiber artists, whose work is created primarily from natural or synthetic fibers, including textiles, fabrics, paper, reed, yarn, thread, and more.
The Mildred M. Cox Gallery is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admissions is free. Information regarding the gallery can be found at www.williamwoods.edu/coxartgallery.
