2024-2025 Mainstage Season Series at William Woods continues with the dark comedy “What Happened While Hero Was Dead”

Fulton, MO – The Mainstage Season Series resumes at William Woods University(WWU) this week, as the University’s drama department will present a comedy with its roots in classical literature entitled “What Happened While Hero Was Dead.” This week’s stage production will begin with the opening performance on Thursday, February 20 at Dulany Auditorium on the WWU campus.

“What Happened While Hero Was Dead” is built around a character from William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing – the virtuous Hero. After she is accused of wanton behavior and then ditched at the altar, a false rumor spreads: the rumor about Hero’s death. Hidden away in the maid’s quarters, Hero is desperate to clear her name so that things can go back to normal, until some unexpected encounters reveal that being dead might be the best thing that ever could’ve happened in her life.

“What Happened While Hero Was Dead is a classic dark comedy, irreverent and clever while advancing the story of one of Shakespeare’s classic characters,” said Joe Potter, Artistic Director of the William Woods University Theatre Department. “Come join us at the theatre for an entertaining, unusual production brought to you by our talented William Woods actors.”

Performances for What Happened While Hero Was Dead will take place February 20 – 22 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee showing on Saturday, February 22 at 2 p.m., all in Dulany Auditorium. Mature audiences only for language and situations. Tickets for the production ($8) must be purchased using a credit or debit card at https://www.cur8.com Attendees must have their purchased ticket pulled up on their phone for admittance into the theatre. All seating is now in a general admission format.

The final production for the 2024-2025 academic year will be “Cabaret At The Woods,” coming up April 10-12, 2025.
