The Mainstage Season Series at William Woods University(WWU) will complete its production schedule for the 2022-2023 academic year this week, as the University’s drama department will stage a play about five former college swimmers who reunite every year at a summer beach cottage to take stock of their lives. A light female bonding comedy, “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” will begin with the opening performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at Dulany Auditorium on the WWU campus.
“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” tells the story of five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, who set aside a long weekend each August to meet and recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on the Outer Banks of North Carolina every year to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. The Sweet Delilah Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of “teamwork,” rally ‘round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction.
“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club is a delightful story about the enduring quality of lifetime friendships, which is especially timely as we get ready for commencement season and college friends heading out into the world and new lives,” said Joe Potter, Artistic Director of the William Woods University Theatre Department. “Come join us at the theatre as we finish the 2022-2023 year with a production that will make you laugh and also tug at your heart.”
