The auction is sponsored by President’s Twenty, a collegiate honorary service society whose members serve as official ambassadors of William Woods University. Auction proceeds will go toward an outside sitting area for students near Tucker Dining Hall.
A silent auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Tucker Dining Hall’s Nielsen Room. A live auction, often containing artwork by WWU art faculty and other priceless items, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Tucker.
“The auction was started as a way for the William Woods community to support the fundraising efforts of President’s Twenty (PXX). The funds raised are always used to support projects to benefit the entire student body,” WWU President Jahnae H. Barnett said. “It provides a wonderful way for us to support the needs of students while having fun purchasing donations PXX members solicit.”
A few of the projects the auction has supported in the past include bike racks, lights for the sand volleyball court, outdoor furniture at Aldridge, bringing Starbucks to the Owls Nest, starting Health Hunt and remodeling Woody’s.
President’s Twenty members assist President Barnett at university events, serve as the official honor and color guard at all university convocations, commencements and many other activities. As members, they act as liaisons between the university president and the student body, providing an avenue of communication for each.
Potential members must first complete a written application, and are then interviewed by the president, university vice president, and the chair of President’s Twenty. The president makes the final selection.
This group of individuals is composed of young men and women who represent the university from all aspects of academics, athletics and student involvement. President’s Twenty has been a long-standing tradition of William Woods University, and continues to show the character and reputation that William Woods students possess.
