The William Woods University Theatre Department presents ‘Down the Road’ Feb. 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m.in Dulany Auditorium.
This provocative piece by Lee Blessing takes the audience down a dark and frightening path into the mind of a serial killer. Iris and Dan Henniman (played by Kayla Jo Pulliam of Bloomington-Normal, Ill., and Drew Arnett of St. Louis, Mo.) are a husband and wife writing team who have been hired to write an account of the crimes of serial killer William Reach (played by Cody Olendorff of Pacific, Mo.).
The weeks of interviewing Reach, who has admitted to murdering 19 women and may have killed more, take their toll on the couple. They begin to wonder whether what they are doing is ethically right. Are they simply relating terrifying events? Or are they helping readers consume rape, murder and mutilation? Are they turning a serial killer into a celebrity?
This production is guest directed by Kathy Potter, who has a B.A. in theatre arts from California State University, Los Angeles. She has been acting and directing for more than 40 years.
