WWU Riders ‘Kick Off’ Show Season with Numerous Wins

Students and horses from William Woods University recently competed in the Missouri Horse Shows Association (MHSA) Kick Off Horse Show. Held April 16-18 at the Midway Expo Center in Columbia, Mo., the show was a great success.


Erica Santa of Longmeadow, Mass., rode After Eight to take first place in ASB Park Open, as well as third place in the ASB Park Stake. She also teamed up with Lake Holliday to win both the Morgan Western Pleasure Open class and the Morgan Hunter Pleasure Amateur class. The pair also took fifth in Jackpot Open Western Pleasure.


Sarah MacKenna of Bow, N.H., showed Enchanting Hour to take first place in ASB 3-Gaited Novice and ASB 3-Gaited Ladies. She also showed Ultimate Investment to take second place in Open Western Pleasure Amateur Rider, first in Open Western Pleasure, and second in the Open Western Pleasure Championship.


Anna Malkowski of Yorkville, Ill., rode I Found My Champagne to take fourth in ASB 5-Gaited Show Pleasure and fifth in ASB 5-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship.


Nicole Wallace of Grand Blanc, Mich., rode CH Sportster to win the ASB Amateur 3-Gaited class and take third in the ASB 3-Gaited Amateur Stake.


Lonna Glover of Tallahassee, Fla., paired up with Worthy’s Saint Patty, to take sixth place in ASB 3-Gaited Pleasure Adult, fourth in ASB 3-Gaited Show Pleasure Novice Horse, and first in MHSA Open English Pleasure Novice Rider.


Jenny Stracke of Lebanon, Ill., rode Spirited Revival to a second place finish in ASB 5-Gaited Show Pleasure. She also took fourth in the ASB 5-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship.


Meghan Monroe of Cana, Va., showed Trefethen to win ASB Country English Pleasure Novice Rider. The pair also took second in ASB Country English Pleasure Adult Rider and third in the ASB Country English Pleasure Championship.


Alyssa Boushon of Grayslake, Ill., rode Marq of Elegance to win all four classes they entered: MHSA Arabian English Pleasure, NSH English Pleasure Amateur, NSH Open English Pleasure and the MHSA Arabian English Pleasure Championship.


Courteney O’Patry of San Diego, Calif., rode Zippo’s Kool Kat to multiple ribbons, including fifth in Open Western Pleasure Adult Rider, third in both Open Western Pleasure Amateur Rider and Open Western Pleasure, and sixth in Jackpot Open Western Pleasure.


Lisa Sherrick of St. Louis Park, Minn., put Cheetah’s Debutante through her paces to win the ASB 3-Gaited Show Pleasure Novice Horse class. She also took fifth in ASB 3-Gaited Pleasure Adult, and fourth in the ASB 3-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship.


Genevieve Hanna of Kansas City, Mo., competed with Page Turner to take fifth in both Saddle & Bridle’s Shatner Western Pleasure class and the ASB Country Western Pleasure Championship.

Brooke Yule of Fallbrook, Calif., made a good show aboard The Dixie Doodle in both ASB 3-Gaited Pleasure Adult and the ASB 3-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship.


The students were coached by Gayle Lampe, professor of equestrian science; Jennie Petterson, clinical instructor of equestrian science, and Laura Ward, assistant professor of equestrian science.
