William Woods University presented the Order of the Owl Award to Dana K. Anderson of Los Angeles, Calif., during Alumni Weekend, April 23-24.
The Order of the Owl Award is designed to honor spouses of William Woods alumni who have shown a special interest in promoting and supporting the activities of the university.
Anderson is the husband of Sue Anderson, who graduated from WWU in 1961. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Anderson has more than 42 years experience in the real estate industry and serves as vice chairman of the board of directors of the Macerich Company, the third largest mall owner in the U.S. During his tenure with the company, he has served as chief operating officer and executive vice president.
In addition to his professional interests, the Andersons have shown dedication and support to WWU. They are lifetime members of the WWU President’s Club Giving Society, and they have supported many of the university’s recent initiatives.
Anderson was the commencement speaker at the spring 2007 ceremony, sharing his words of wisdom with nearly 600 graduating seniors.
Most recently, in 2008, Anderson Arena, inside the Helen Stephens Sports Complex on campus, was named in honor of Dana and Sue Anderson, who were instrumental in making the refurbishment of that facility possible.
