Michael Bland Jr., an experienced information technology (IT) manager and system administrator, has joined William Woods University as the IT director.
Bland has worked at the universities of Arkansas and Missouri in the technology departments and as a system administrator at both institutions.
Most recently, he worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he served as head of the Library Technology Services team and led staff in various group projects.
The IT director is responsible for providing leadership and guidance including the development of information technology strategies. Bland also oversees the computer, telephone and cable networks, along with managing the technology budgeting and planning for WWU.
“Our goal is to improve the overall IT environment, and educate faculty, staff and students,” Bland said. “The IT staff continually strives for the highest degree of professionalism and customer service.”
Bland is a graduate of the College Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky. He majored in computer science at Tuskegee University in Alabama and received a bachelor of science in computer information management form WWU. He is pursuing his master of business administration (MBA) from WWU.
He has been involved in the Association of Research Libraries Management Institute, the Library Information Technology Association, Educause and the MU Technological Advisory group. He also was a member of the Organization Review Task Force at MU, served as chair of MU Libraries Information Technology Committee and was involved in several other committees and organizations.
