WWU Freshman from Glen Ellyn, Ill. Receives Award

Sable Handke, a freshman at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Freshman Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 20.

She is the daughter of Gregory and Melinda Handke of Glen Ellyn, Ill.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

Handke was honored for her involvement in campus organizations and service projects, including Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, Little Brother/Little Sister program, and public relations chair for College Republicans.

Her community service involvement includes CARD-V (Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence) training, Take Back the Night, Out of the Darkness (suicide prevention and education), SERVE (a community agency that provides a variety of services for residents of Callaway County) and various other philanthropic activities.
