Women’s golfer wins Helen Stephens Award at William Woods

This year’s winner of the Helen Stephens Award at William Woods University is women’s golfer, Myriam Hassan. Hassan is a junior from Newport, Wales, majoring in communications.

The Helen Stephens Award is the Athletic Department’s highest honor. It is presented annually to an outstanding junior student-athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and in the area of intercollegiate athletics.  This award is presented to a student who demonstrates the talent, discipline and desire that best describes the legacy of WWU’s own Olympic Champion, Helen Stephens.

Some of Hassan’s honors include 2013 AMC Freshman of the Year, member of the #1 Ranked Freshman Class in the Country by Golfstat, 2013 and 2014 AMC Player of the Year, 2013 and 2014 NAIA First Team All-American and 2015 AMC All-Academic, AMC Player and NAIA National Player of the Week award-winner multiple times.

Hassan finished fourth individually at the 2014 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship and holds the William Woods single season and career stroke average record and scoring record for 18 holes and 36 holes. She has been a member of the teams that have finished 6th place and 4th place at the NAIA National Championships.

She was selected for the All-AMC team in 2015, finished in a tie for 54th at the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship and was named to the NAIA All-American honorable mention team.
