William Woods University is featured among top online colleges and universities in the third annual ranking on AffordableCollegesOnline.org, with its online paralegal program ranked eighth nationally.
“Highlighting the institutions, like William Woods University, that are ensuring excellence for popular degrees was very important.” said Dan Schuessler, CEO and founder of AC Online. “These institutions are ensuring that individuals are entering the workforce capable of performing a variety of related responsibilities pertaining to that specific degree.”
The university had to meet a number of criteria and metrics to be included in the AC Online rankings. These criteria include public or private not-for-profit institutions, offer at least one fully on-line bachelor’s degree program and job placement for graduates.
Affordable Colleges Online has distinguished its ranking scale by the use of Peer-Based Value, or PBV. The PBV score compares the cost of each program to the cost of similar programs with the same qualitative score.
“We are pleased that our Bachelor of Science degree in paralegal studies is being recognized for the fine program it is,” Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, WWU president, said. “WWU has been a leader in the field for more than 40 years, preparing students for a wide range of roles and a variety of industries, through academic excellence and hands-on experience, now with the convenience and flexibility of online education.”
According to the write up by Affordable Colleges Online, “The school boasts collaboration and networking in this entirely-online program. Students also complete a practicum, for some hands-on or real-world experience. In addition to that, students study substantive and procedural law, legal interviewing and investigation, law-related computer skills, legal services delivery, legal writing and much more.”
Affordable Colleges Online also mentioned, “Graduates go off into various careers, including paralegals, deputy court clerks, legal administrators, administrative assistants, risk management officers, compliance officers and much more. Success truly starts here!”
“While 71 percent of paralegals work in law firms, graduates may also find employment in a corporate setting, governmental agency, organizational setting, or other entity,” Cynthia Kramer, professor of legal studies, said. “Paralegals perform a broad range of legal duties, helping to increase their value in the job market and find opportunities in many different industries.”
According to Kramer, “The William Woods online B.S. degree in paralegal studies consists of 42 semester hours in a 14-course sequence. Convenient, 8-week courses offer start-and-stop flexibility and affordable tuition.
“Coursework focuses on the application of substantive and procedural law to legal fact patterns that professionals would encounter in the legal environment. The program strives to build a core of legal knowledge and critical thinking skills, as well as an understanding of professional ethics, communication, and interpersonal skills.”
