Kara Haithcoat, a freshman at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Freshman Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 20.
She is the daughter of Timothy and Kellie Haithcoat of Columbia, Mo.
The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.
Haithcoat was honored for her involvement in campus organizations and service projects, including Campus Crusade for Christ, College Republicans and the Honors Program.
Prior to the fall election, she served as head of the campus canvas collecting group for College Republicans. She has recently been invited to serve on the student panel in charge of the Honors Colloquia. She also will be taking a leadership position with Campus Crusade for Christ.
In the area of community service, she has helped a home-schooled youth basketball team, and puts money aside from every paycheck to give to the church. She is also helping to plan a Campus Crusade for Christ dance for which all the proceeds will go to a charity foundation.
