William Woods University students continue tradition and school spirit by celebrating the third annual CourtWarming Feb. 22-27.
Students will vote throughout the week to elect a WWU CourtWarming king and queen and their court. During the week, a number of events are planned to encourage school spirit and support for WWU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Starting Monday, residence halls will decorate banners to display. On Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear WWU logo clothing for Spirit Day competition, and WWU faculty and staff will have the opportunity “Pay to Play”— a $3 donation will allow them to wear jeans for the day.
Events will continue on Wednesday, with a WWU Bonfire Night at Aldridge Recreation Center at 6 p.m. Thursday at 7 p.m., WWU professors will tip off in a faculty basketball game, and donations for Haitian relief efforts will be accepted.
A pep rally will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Anderson Arena. WWU CourtWarming t-shirts will be given away, and there will be a chance to bid to be “part of the team,” by purchasing the opportunity to wear an Owls’ traveling jersey for the CourtWarming game on Saturday. All proceeds will benefit the Missouri Special Olympics.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, a team and family brunch for the men and women’s basketball teams will be held in Tucker Dining Hall in preparation for the day’s games.
The women’s basketball team will tip off against Columbia College at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s team at 4 p.m. Both games will be held in Anderson Arena of the Helen Stephens Sports Complex. Coronation of the Court will occur Saturday between the women’s and men’s basketball game.
