The 58th Cannes Film Festival will take place in France in May, but before then, the 1st Inklings Film Festival will take place at William Woods University.
A WWU student organization, Writers’ Ink, has formed the Inklings Film Festival to showcase original short films created by William Woods students and others as far away as the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.
Four 15-minute films have been selected to be shown April 9 in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center, starting at 7 p.m. In addition to two Polish submissions, films by WWU students Josh Potter of Fulton, Mo., and Ryan Paul of Olathe, Kan., will be shown.
“The members of Writers’ Ink want this to be a creative outlet for all those interested in the art of cinematography,” Katricia Pierson, assistant professor of English and the organization’s sponsor, said.
“This event is meant to be a fun, an entertaining and an enriching experience,” she added.
Films were solicited from every college and university in Missouri, as well as some neighboring states. Festival details were also posted on several independent film sites.
