William Woods University, which was honored earlier this month for being ranked eighth nationally for its online paralegal program, has received another honor from Affordable Colleges Online—its American Sign Language program is ranked number five nationally.
The online Bachelor of Science in Interpretation Studies in American Sign Language is listed among the Best Online English and Humanities Degree programs for 2015-2016. The announcement comes during National Deaf History Month.
“The news keeps getting better and better,” Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, WWU president, said. “Online classes allow students to have a choice that best fits into their lifestyles, so online education will continue to grow. We are pleased to be recognized for quality programs and we will continue to develop new online programs worthy of recognition.”
Williams Woods University’s online ASL degree provides the background students need to work as an ASL-English interpreter. The eight-week courses offer start-and-stop flexibility so students can work at their own pace while still fulfilling personal responsibilities.
Graduates are proficient in ASL and eligible to sit for National Interpreter Certification administered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. The degree also pairs with WWU’s education and behavioral sciences majors.
According to Affordable Colleges Online, “Many schools offer online programs in English and the humanities, but some do it better than others. Though online programs traditionally give students more flexibility than the their brick-and-mortar counterparts can provide, some of them have gone above and beyond to ensure that students get the most out of their program as possible.”
William Woods provides a number of undergraduate degree programs online, including Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in in Paralegal Studies and Bachelor of Science in Interpretation Studies in American Sign Language-English.
Online graduate degree programs are Master of Business Administration in Entrepreneurial Leadership, Master of Education in Equestrian Education and Master of Education in Teaching and Technology.
