The Jefferson City Art Club is celebrating its 100th year in 2003. For the past 55 years, the Art Cub has sponsored a Sketch Day for Jefferson City high school students. Approximately 90 students from the Simonsen Ninth Grade Center, Helias High School and Jefferson City High School participate in the event every year.
The event this year will be held May 5. The students’ work will be exhibited at the Elizabeth Rosier Gallery in Jefferson City May 6 to May 10.
Paul Clervi, chair of the division of visual performing and communication arts at William Woods University, will judge the competition. A sculptor in wood, stone and bronze, Clervi earned a MFA in sculpture and an MA in drawing/painting from the University of Missouri. He has taught fine arts at the college level over the past 35 years, as well as entering his own work in numerous exhibitions.
