William Woods prepares for Fall Family Weekend

Families from across the country will arrive at William Woods University to reunite with their children and get a taste of college life during the upcoming Fall Family Weekend. The event, scheduled for Oct. 9-11, will keep students and their families busy with the numerous activities WWU is offering.

“Fall Family Weekend is an opportunity for families to experience the campus as their students do everyday,” said Venita Mitchell, vice president and dean of Student Life. “Our schedule provides opportunities for families to attend campus events with their students. Students always enjoy introducing their campus friends and faculty to their families.”

Two activities will be ongoing. The Faculty Art Exhibit, featuring recent works of faculty, will be open throughout the weekend. “Kiss Me Kate,” a WWU musical theatre production, will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Friday activities start with a golf tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course. In the afternoon, students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with faculty at the McNutt Campus Center. Events on Saturday include a Parents’ Association Coffee, allowing WWU parents to meet one another and learn how the association benefits students.

The Fall Festival Horse Show, an annual favorite, will be held Saturday in the Bettina Bancroft Equestrian Center, featuring Hunters/Jumpers, Western, Saddle Seat, Driving and Dressage. Later that evening, there will be a wine-tasting with music alongside Junior Lake.

Families can also spend Saturday afternoon cheering on the WWU soccer teams as they host McKendree at 3 and 5 p.m., or watching the volleyball team play Harris-Stowe at 4 p.m in the Anderson Arena. The baseball team will also have a scrimmage at 1 p.m.
