Watson Receives Novus Scholarship from Missouri Colleges Fund

Lucas Watson of Louisiana, Mo., is the recipient of a
scholarship from the Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) in recognition of his efforts
and achievements at William Woods University.

Money for the scholarship came from Novus International,
which donated $16,000 to MCF, providing 16 scholarships of $1,000 each to
qualified students majoring in a science-related discipline.
 
Missouri Colleges Funds assists private colleges and
universities in Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship
opportunities.
 
Watson is a senior at William Woods, majoring in biology/pre-medicine
with minors in chemistry, physical science and Spanish.  He is studying abroad this semester at
Universisdad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo in Guayuquil, Ecuador. 
 
A member of many campus organizations, Watson is chair of
President’s Twenty, president of Beta Beta Beta biology honor society and an
active member of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. He is also active in the
community, where he averages 25 hours of community service a semester and has
helped raise money for foundations such as the Scleroderma Foundation.
 
Watson also has conducted research on
tick-borne pathogens such as Borrelia
burgdorferi
and Borrelia lonestari
found in Missouri ticks.
He hopes to continue his education after graduation and pursue his medical
degree.
