Joel Watson, a senior at William Woods University, has been named to the 2005 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
The son of Walter Watson and Celia Hefner of Orongo, Mo., he is majoring in computer information systems, with a minor in business administration.
Watson was one of 13 William Woods University students selected for Who’s Who, based on being an outstanding campus leader. A campus nominating committee and editors of the annual directory chose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
By being listed in “Who’s Who,” Watson joins an elite group of students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.
Watson co-chairs the Campus Integration Group and he organized and hosted joint leadership retreats for William Woods University and Westminster College for four years. He also is secretary of Leader Scholars and was a director of Nocturnal Exodus, a student-run computer business.
He was selected by the Student Alumni Council as an Outstanding Freshman in 2002.
