Thomas S. Thomas of Columbia received the Order of the Owl Award during Alumni Weekend at William Woods University April 21-23. The award is given to honor the spouse of an alumnus who has shown a special interest in promoting and supporting the activities of the university.
He is married to Nancy Waller Thomas, WWU ’67, who is the current chair of the WWU Board of Trustees and a former alumni association president.
Thomas graduated from Westminster College in 1966 with a B.A. in political science. He also earned three degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia—a master of education in educational administration, a BHSM in health services management and an MPA with an emphasis in health services management.
He has just completed 37 years in hospital and health systems management, and is now involved in his own health consulting business.
In addition to professional interests, he has been a community, state and national leader. He currently serves as a policy board member for Kansas City University School of Medicine and Biosciences, and has served as chair of the Missouri State Board of Health and chair of the Missouri Health and Educational Facilities Financing Authority.
He is also a Life Trustee of Westminster College and a past president of their alumni association. A resident of Columbia for 40 years, he has served his community as chair of the Regional Airport Advisory Board, board member of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of two Rotary clubs and an elder of First Presbyterian Church.
