William Woods University students in the art, theatre and communications areas recently received achievement awards during annual portfolio reviews.
Students presented their portfolios in front of various faculty and staff members, as well as working professionals. They were judged on their presentation in a variety of categories, based on the work they’ve done while at WWU.
“The purpose of the review is to assess the educational development and growth of the students and award those who have excelled in their respective field,” Paul Clervi, professor of art and chair of the division of arts and science, said.
Six visual art students were recipients of awards. They are: Jessica Bargate of Jefferson City, Mo., professional development; Kaycee Wyatt of Wathena, Kan., craftsmanship and design; Ben Nickelson of Jefferson City, Mo., expression and creativity; Erica Begley of Hannibal, Mo., and Anna LeRoy of Rhineland, Mo.,dedication to the arts, and Elise Fumagalli of Washington, Mo., artistic growth.
Three students earned awards in theatre: Allison Ward of Hazelwood, Mo., professional presentation; Dustin West of Kansas City, Mo., dedication to craft, and Rachel Petricka of Las Vegas, Nev., artistic growth.
Four students earned awards in communications. Eliza Payne of Zionsville, Ind., professional presentation; Sarah Knapp of Festus, Mo., creativity; Anna Winderknecht of Blue Grass, Iowa, technical approach, and Heather Vanderborg of Jefferson City, Mo., overall growth.
