Several William Woods University students received awards at the opening reception of the annual faculty/student art exhibit. The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 28, showcases the work of faculty and students in art, theatre and communications.
Award winners were selected by faculty during portfolio reviews, which are held every fall to assess the educational development of the students. According to the faculty, “the works represent strong quality, creativity, inventiveness and craftsmanship.”
In the arts, award winners were Stephanie Strother of Fulton, Mo., and Deena Cooley of Powell, Wyo., for professional presentation; Sarah Armour of Jefferson City, Mo., and Tracy Potts of Columbia, Mo., for artistic growth; Ester Holleman of the Netherlands and Dana Juncker of Mt. Vernon, Ind., for dedication to craft; Holly Dirnberger of Oran, Mo., for expression and creativity; Sarah Williams of Brookfield, Mo., for craftsmanship and design, and Hunter Nesbitt of Jenks, Okla., for exploration of media.
In the communications area, award winners were Heather Brake of Eldon, Mo., for professional presentation; Rachel Bryant of White Hall, Ark., for expression and creativity, and Ida Hoffmann of Defiance, Mo., for dedication to the arts.
Award winners in the theatre area were Meghan Parks of Quincy, Ill., for professional presentation; Shaun Speers of O’Fallon, Mo., for dedication to craft, and Kristin Bailey of Columbia, Mo., for artistic growth.
The work is exhibited in the Mildred Cox Gallery of the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts on the William Woods campus. The Cox Gallery is open to the public, free of charge, Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.– 4 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Call 573-592-4245 for more information.
