Buddy Staats, a senior at William Woods University, has been named to the 2005 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
The son of Elaine Lubbers of Knob Lick, Mo., and Jesse Staats of Hereford, Ariz., he is majoring in business administration (marketing/advertising emphasis) and communication (broadcast emphasis).
Staats was one of 13 William Woods University students selected for Who’s Who, based on being an outstanding campus leader. A campus nominating committee and editors of the annual directory chose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
By being listed in “Who’s Who,” Staats joins an elite group of students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.
Staats transferred to William Woods from East Central College, where he received an associate of arts degree in general studies in 2003. Since coming to WWU, he has been involved in a number of campus activities.
He is recruitment chair of the University Ambassadors, and he is a manager and caller for the annual alumni phone-a-thon. He also is involved in Campus Activities Board and was talent show emcee.
Staats is president of the Recreational Outdoor Club and a member of the Campus Integration Group and Jesters Club. He has appeared in three theatre productions: “Godspell,” “The Boys Next Door” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” He has been selected for two honorary societies: Phi Beta Lambda business honorary and Lambda Pi Eta communication honorary.
