San Francisco Resident Named Outstanding at William Woods University

Kristin Smith of San Francisco, a junior at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Junior Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 18. She also received an Outstanding Sophomore Award last year.
Formerly of San Rafael, she is the daughter of Kevin Smith.
The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

A member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Smith served as vice president of recruitment and is currently treasurer of Panhellenic Council. She is a member of Order of Omega Greek honor society and Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.

Smith is assistant director for Up ’til Dawn, which raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a Community Advisor, a member of President’s Twenty and has been a class officer for Student Alumni Council for two years. A member of the WWU volleyball team, she earned American Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference Honors for Volleyball in 2006. She also was editor-in-chief of the student newspaper.

She volunteered for two months in the summer of 2005 in Belize, Central America, where she wrote, edited, translated and designed articles, brochures and grant proposals for different organizations and publications in the Cayo District of Belize. She also is involved in various other philanthropic activities.
