Fans of “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise” are in for a treat, when the Parrothead Band performs “A Salute to Jimmy Buffett” at William Woods University. The outdoor concert is planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at Junior Lake on campus.
Part of the President’s Concert and Lecture Series, the performance is free and open to the public.
The Parrothead Band is a seasoned and diverse quintet hailing from Dayton, Ohio. Each band member’s background spans some 25 years, covering a vast variety of styles.
The band is led by Dave Albrecht, who performs lead vocals, harmonica, bongos, various percussion devices and a furl of fabric. The amazing similarity of his voice to that of Jimmy Buffett has astounded many listeners.
Albrecht plays up the similarity, providing numerous props and costumes to enhance his show and present the true feel of a Buffett show.
Other band members are: Jeff (blind dog) Cline, who plays six string guitar; Billy (barracuda) Morris, who plays keyboard and ukulele; Gary (riptide) Rigmaiden, who plays the four string bass guitar, and Greg (great white) Martin, who plays drums and percussion.
All sing backing vocals.
The Parrothead Band will perform all the Jimmy Buffett hits, such as “Volcano,” “Come Monday,” “Fins,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor” and many more. Refreshments and kettle corn will be available.
