William Woods University art students won top awards in this year’s One Read art competition, “Beneath the Prairie Sky.”
Winning first place was Kelly Trustee of Huntsville, Mo. Becky Botts of Mexico, Mo., came in second, with Carol Diedriech of Holts Summit, Mo., third. The first two winning pieces are charcoals and the third is a watercolor.
Jamie Carey Humphreys, a local artist, judged the competition.
The show will be on display at the Callaway County Public Library until Oct. 20.
The show is based on this year’s One Read selection, “The Whistling Season,” by Ivan Doig. The novel features a 1909 Montana homesteading family and the education they receive in various forms. The prairie, their one-room schoolhouse and Halley’s Comet play prominent roles in the story, and are the subjects of much of the artwork submitted in this year’s competition.
