New Tripoli Resident Named Outstanding at WWU

Alexandra (Allie) Layos, of New Tripoli, Pa., a freshman at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Freshman Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 19.

The daughter of Dale and Patricia Layos, she is a double major in equestrian science and communications.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

Layos is a member of Chi Omega sorority, Writer’s Ink Club, Saddleseat Club, Echoes school newspaper, honors society and Campus Crusade for Christ.

She serves on the community service committee for her sorority and participates in community service projects in many philanthropies to help raise money for different causes.

She recently volunteered her time at St. Peter’s Church for the Faith Maternity Care Dinner, which raised money for a new house to help young mothers get their lives back on track and give them a place to stay until they do. She has also volunteered her time by talking to schools, 4-H groups, and youth clubs. Over Christmas break, she did a speech and book signing during an after school program for underprivileged first graders.
