William Woods University plans to open the gate near Firley Soccer Field, beginning Monday, Oct. 8. Previously, the road, which is across from the KFAL-KKCA radio station, was a private drive.
“This entrance will provide easy and attractive access to and from our campus off Highway 54,” Venita Mitchell, dean of student life, said.
The new gate hours will be 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
Access to campus from Business 54/Bluff Street will be restricted to construction traffic—large trucks and heavy equipment working on the dam. That gate will be closed for safety reasons.
“Once construction is complete, we will monitor traffic flow from the new gate and the new Walgreens’ opening for its impact on campus safety,” Mitchell said. “This information will help us determine whether to reopen the Business 54 gate.”
She said the Business 54 gate may appear to be open, but she cautioned drivers not to use it “as you will not be able to access campus and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to turn around.”
A temporary sign at the intersection will indicate that it is a Dead End.
