Missouri Colleges Fund Receives $31,000 in Donations

The Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) announced that it has received $31,000 in recent donations. MasterCard Worldwide has contributed $16,000 and Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has contributed $15,000.

The grants underwrite MCF’s Scholars Program by providing scholarships at each of the 16 member schools, including William Woods University and Westminster College. The scholarships will be awarded by the schools to outstanding qualified students on the basis of financial need.

The MasterCard contribution will be matched by other donor gifts to support the Teachers First Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to teacher education students. MasterCard scholarships will go to students preparing to teach math.

Enterprise scholarships will go to students pursuing degrees in business, marketing and/or communications.

“The Missouri Colleges Fund is very grateful” for both gifts, said Mike Backer, MCF president. MasterCard and Enterprise “recognize the importance of education and significant impact that an educated workforce has on Missouri’s economy.”

MCF member schools are independent baccalaureate degree-granting liberal arts and comprehensive colleges and universities in the state of Missouri. Their income is derived primarily from private sources.

In addition to William Woods and Westminster, MCF member schools include Avila University, Kansas City; Central Methodist University, Fayette; Columbia College, Columbia; Culver-Stockton College, Canton; Drury University and Evangel University, Springfield; Fontbonne University, Maryville University and Missouri Baptist University, St. Louis; Hannibal LaGrange College, Hannibal; Park University, Parkville; Rockhurst University, Kansas City; Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, and William Jewell College, Liberty.

MCF was incorporated in 1952 as a partnership of private enterprise and the member independent colleges and universities in the Show-Me State. The MCF is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt corporation; therefore, all contributions to the MCF are tax-deductible up to the limits prescribed by law.
