In recognition of his contributions of time and money to William Woods University, Charles W. Kuergeleis of Chesterfield, Mo., was named an Honorary Alumnus during Alumni Weekend April 25-27.
Kuergeleis is second vice chair of the William Woods University Board of Trustees. He was elected to board membership in 1999.
For 48 years, he was employed by Fru-Con Construction Corporation in St. Louis, Mo., starting as a construction craftsman and rising to the corporate office level of vice president.
Since 1988 he has been running his own consulting firm, Kuergeleis Consulting. He has worked in Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iran, Ghana, Haiti, Hong Kong, Honduras, Fiji and Nicaragua and is active on several boards throughout the world.
His daughter, Judy Schmuck of Wildwood, Mo., graduated from William Woods in 1972. She has held a number of leadership positions in Alpha Chi Omega and is currently chapter advisor for the chapter on campus.
Because of his daughter, Kuergeleis has assisted or fully funded multiple capital improvements to the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house. He also created the Charles W. Kuergeleis Alpha Chi Omega Scholarship Fund at William Woods. In addition to the nine recipients of the Alpha Chi Omega scholarship, he has assisted 11 students with one-time grants.
