Jefferson City Seniors Named to Who’s Who

Courtney Engle and Allison Gibson of Jefferson City, both seniors at William Woods University, have been named to the 2004 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

The daughter of Lynne and Robert J. Engle II and a graduate of Fulton High School, Engle is majoring in elementary education, with an emphasis in early childhood education. Gibson, the daughter of Donna and James Watson, is a Helias High School graduate, majoring in business with concentrations in management and marketing.

Engle and Gibson were among 13 William Woods University students selected for Who’s Who, based on being an outstanding campus leader. A campus nominating committee and editors of the annual directory chose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

By their listing in “Who’s Who,” Engle and Gibson join an elite group of students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

Engle is active on the William Woods campus, where she has been a member of President’s 20, Campus Ambassadors, Student Alumni Council and Hands On Club. She has been extremely involved in Alpha Chi Omega sorority, serving as president, new member educator, chapter relations and standards board, recruitment chair and risk management chair.

She was sophomore, junior and senior class president; a member of Kappa Delta Pi honorary education society; Dean’s List; National Dean’s List and outstanding WWU sophomore.

Gibson, too, is involved in numerous campus activities, including President’s 20, Campus Activities Board, University Ambassadors, Student Assembly, Students for Social Work and Circle K. She is secretary of Phi Beta Lambda business honor society.

She is the immediate past president of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and previously served as vice president for education, secretary and class agent. She was Greek Woman of the Year 2002-03. Gibson is a volunteer for Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARD-V) and Little Brothers/Little Sisters.
