Lynnzie Trustee, a junior education major at William Woods University, received the Helen Stephens Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet April 18.
She is the daughter of Larry and Pam Trustee of Huntsville, Mo.
This award is presented annually to an outstanding junior athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and in the area of intercollegiate athletics. The student must demonstrate the talent, discipline and desire that best describes the legacy of Olympic Gold medalist and William Woods alumna, Helen Stephens.
Trustee is a member of the varsity softball team and has received numerous awards over the years. She earned American Midwest Conference (AMC) Academic All-Conference honors her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
She also was named to the First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region in 2006. The same year, she was ranked number one in the AMC and 25th by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for batting averages. She was also ranked number one by AMC in hits and hits per game and 23rd by the NAIA in hits per game.
That same year she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Midwest Region First Team for the outfield. She led the team in batting average with .446, in hits with 79 and on-base percentage of .479, just as she led her team in on- base percentage with .486, in 2005.
